Since 1953, Gateways Hospital & Mental Health Center has been offering its services to the public. Located in the Echo Park/Silverlake area, Gateways Center is dedicated to its service of the mentally ill in adolescents and adults. This non-profit organization was founded on the belief that everyone has a right to proper care, even those with little resources. Each facility has a numerous amount of licensed and paraprofessional individuals, each qualified to assist in the wellbeing of mental health patients. The main branch offers 72 beds. All Hospital services offered by Gateways Hospital & Mental Health Center are under contract with Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. There are various inpatient and outpatient program that can fit the situations of many different people and address their needs. The programs offered will assist patients in meeting the needs for intensive residential services and comprehensive enough to meet outpatient requirements for successful functionality. In-Patient programs include an extended stay with amenities such as:

Outpatient programs are growingly becoming more popular. The outpatient programs at Gateways Hospital & Mental Health Center serve a variety of psychological, medical, educational and social services to meet the specifics of the LA County Department of Mental Healths requirements. For adolescents between the age of 13 and 18 there are many programs that can help rehabilitate them and integrate them into society, without a permanent stay at the hospital. Gateways has partnered with 12 local schools to ensure that young adults get the opportunity for this care.

Since 2001 Gateways Hospital & Mental Health Center has been serving the homeless population with a licensed and paraprofessional staff of Psychiatrists, Social Workers, Case Coordinators and Counselors. Their goal is to provide equal opportunities for all. Referrals have consistently originated from a variety of sources including county agencies, homeless providers and concerned citizens. The Inpatient and Outpatient programs are also available to the homeless population.

For the successful clients who have been doing much better, rather progressing naturally or from a variety of services offered by Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center, there is a wellness center, which include social rehabilitation groups, psychiatrist check-ups. job information and availability of computers, and is all covered by PPO, Medicare or Medi-cal.
