Northbound Treatment Services is a Newport Beach-based recovery center that treats addiction at convenient ocean- and airport-adjacent locations. The Orange County center views alcoholism and drug addiction as progressive, chronic and potentially fatal diseases. The center provides a 30-day primary treatment, an extended, three-phase 90-day course and a broad range of specializations for the needs of individual clients. Residential treatment programs for men and women are tailored to each sex, providing gender-segregated help that considers the psychological and biological differences between the genders. Free from the distraction of the opposite sex, gender-specific housing creates a safe space where a client can feel comfortable and able to address sensitive issues related to recovery.

Every client undergoes a Detox (OneEighty) treatment that will cleanse the body of drugs or alcohol under the supervision of an expert clinical team. The OneEighty treatment sets the stage for a successful recovery and re-entry into a fulfilling life. Detox takes place in a fully staffed home where healthful meals are prepared and group activities can take place. During detox, a dual-diagnosis evaluation is performed and the treatment process is shaped around the individual.

It is during the detox process that the client builds up a bond and trust with Northbound Treatment staff that will help to guide him or her through the recovery process. While providing around-the-clock care, staff will do what is necessary to help a client feel safe, secure and comfortable. The client’s family is involved throughout the process in order to improve vital relationships that will play a major role in ensuring the client sticks to a plan after treatment and stays sober. Northbound’s goal is to make the intimidating detox process as stress-free as possible.

Northbound Treatment Services uses the 12-step model to treat dependence on drugs and alcohol. Since 1988, Northbound has focused on providing innovative treatments that maintain a client’s respect and dignity. Northbound commits itself to helping its clients start a new, sober life by achieving a year of constant sobriety. This new life can be very difficult and often requires major changes. Clients are guided through this arduous process during which old habits are removed and new ones are formed. Things that may cause a client to return to old habits are eliminated and the client learns coping mechanisms that will reduce the risk for relapse. The long-term help found at Northbound is key to making sure new habits stick and old habits do not return.

At Northbound, the client relearns basic life skills to address the deterioration of diet, exercise habits, hygiene and cleanliness that likely occurred during addiction. A new, healthy lifestyle will make recovery less jarring and more likely to succeed. Another key to recovery is the “healing environment” that is fostered by Northbound. At Northbound’s quiet, calm recovery venue, routine, encouragement and social engagement keep a client on track and reduce the stress that may jeopardize recovery.

Collegebound Program

One program that sets Northbound Treatment Services apart is its Collegebound service that helps young adults re-enter or enroll in college. With the population of young adults in addiction recovery centers growing, it is becoming more important for treatment programs to place an emphasis on the specific needs of college-aged people. At such a crucial juncture in life, bad decisions made during addiction are likely to jeopardize the likelihood that a young addict will go on to lead a fulfilling life.

Whether the client is a college student who became addicted after beginning his or her education or a teen who is yet to begin a degree program, Collegebound provides academic advisement and other aid to help the client break the cycle of addiction and attain a degree. With a college degree, a person is much more likely to find a well-paying job and live a successful life.
