Prescott House in Prescott, Arizona, provides male-centric recovery treatment for addiction and alcoholism. The best way to attain long-term recovery, Prescott House has found, is long-term treatment. The 12-step based recovery center uses community structure, therapy and education to treat the mind, body and spirit of each client. Clients have a group of people with which to share their recovery at Prescott House. The relaxed group environment provides ample opportunity to find strength in others and in yourself. Prescott house uses a therapeutic model of community that uses experiential group therapy in addition to one-on-one therapy.

During the 12-step process, every client must ask himself how his actions have affected those around him and how he will make it up to them. During recovery at Prescott House, a variety of recovery tools are used. Therapy plays a major role in recovery, but the  supportive community at Prescott House is vital in nurturing the recovery of clients. Boundaries are established, and interpersonal skills are developed. Old behavior is confronted head on, and new life skills are formed that will put the client on a solid road to recovery.

What sets Prescott House apart from other unisex addiction recovery centers is that Prescott House is catered to men, taking into consideration how a man’s physiology handles addiction. Addiction affects men and women differently, and Prescott House strengthens its treatment by focusing specifically on the needs of men. The gender-specific program also eliminates the temptation for distraction by the opposite sex that is present in mixed-gender environments.

Using various therapies, Prescott House treats many types of addictions and disorders, including alcoholism, chemical dependence, compulsive gambling, depression and anxiety, entitlement issues, anger management and many more. Prescott House hosts a very educated team of veteran professionals that includes registered nurses, medical doctors, and many who hold master’s-level degrees.

Extended Treatment

At Prescott House, addiction treatment is done on the long-term scale. The recovery process spans nine months of high-maintenance treatment, stabilization, aftercare and move-out procedures. While each client has differing needs, a general timeline could be characterized as follows:

High maintenance: For the first three months of treatment, the high-maintenance phase and the beginning of the stabilization phase of treatment have clients learning the rules of sobriety, participating in self-esteem workshops, learning a buddy system and taking part in equine therapy. This is the most intensive phase of the treatment and as such it is the most restrictive. For the first two weeks treatment, the client is restricted for using the phone. This restriction helps the client to find peace away from old habits, relationships or friendships. The restriction also helps the client to focus on his treatment, not the outside world. A grocery and personal allowance teaches money-management skills that will be important to life after treatment. The client will volunteer at local charities for 10 hours per week.

Stabilization: Once a client begins the stabilization phase of treatment, he is starting down the road back into the real world. The second phase of treatment is not as restrictive as the first. The client will begin to search for an apartment and can have a car. The job search begins and the client begins to take steps toward being self-supporting. Volunteer work continues.

Aftercare, move-out: During this phase, the client moves out of Prescott House residential living and into a supervised independent living situation. The client continues to attend 12-step meeting and life skills/budgeting lessons. Four times a week, the client works with a therapist. Prescott maintains control of the client’s expense account. Therapy shifts focus to life-life experiences, work and independent living.
