The Sundance Center in Scottsdale, Arizona, takes a holistic approach to treatment that is founded upon a commitment to meeting the physical, mental and existential need of each client. The three-pronged approach Sundance takes to treatment assesses the mind, body and spirit to get to the core of what is affecting the totality of each client. Sundance’s team will create an individualized treatment plan that gets to the bottom of issues such as depression, trauma, anxiety or other disorders that may fuel an addiction.

The treatment Sundance provides will address addiction starting with what caused it and will help the person in recovery to build trust and community.

The programs at Sundance focus on dual-diagnosis treatment of alcohol and drug abuse with expertise in a very wide variety of substances including stimulants, opiates, cannabinoids, hallucinogens and inhalants. Sundance uses 12-step treatment as well as cognitive and dialectical behavior therapy and a broad range of other holistic therapies. Guided meditation, yoga, art therapy, horse-assisted therapy and neurofeedback techniques may all play key roles in the recovery of each client, depending on his or her individual needs.

Housing
Sundance provides housing in gender-segregated but equally luxurious environments. Men and women are provided spaces that provide privacy and comfort while being free of the distraction of the opposite sex. Each house is luxurious and welcoming. In the backyard, a pool and other recreational space encourage clients to get outdoors and get to know one another, building the structure that is vitally important to recovery.

For guests who require a high level of privacy, Sundance offers the men’s executive house. Designed for celebrities, professional athletes, executives and others who need discretion and seclusion, the luxury accommodation will put the client at ease. The executive men’s house offers many of the same amenities as the community houses, including a pool, fitness center, basketball court and putting green, with luxury taken to the next level. Gourmet meals are prepared by a private chef and clients can stay in touch with work and family using the house’s Wi-Fi network.

The Daring Way
As part of its treatment program, Sundance Center uses The Daring Way Shame Resilience Curriculum developed by Dr. Brene Brown. Brown spent 12 years studying vulnerability, courage, shame and worthiness. She is a noted public speaker and a research professor at the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work.

The Daring Way equips clients with tools they can use to learn empathy and self-compassion. The method emphasizes the need to embrace feelings of vulnerability and shame, feelings that are generally pushed away and avoided at all costs.

Intimacy Disorders and Sex Addiction Therapy
Sundance Center also specializes in treating those who struggle with sex addiction or other intimacy and relationship issues. Dr. Stefanie Carnes, a certified sex addiction therapist and clinician leads the specialized groups. Carnes specializes in how sex addiction, eating disorders and chemical dependency can interact with one another.

Body Image and Eating Disorders
Clients in Sundance’s women’s program can also find help with disordered eating patterns and poor body image that is often paired with substance abuse in women. Sundance uses educational and experiential approaches to get to the root of these disorders. An experienced dietician leads a staff to help women improve their eating habits and health.
